Cynthia Rocha - Dissertation du lauréat, 2018

Cynthia Rocha

I have always been captivated by the world of healthcare and health sciences. My participation in diverse health related experiences culminated in my pursuit of a PharmD degree at Université Laval, of which I am now in my third year for 2017-2018.

My former experiences helped me understand current limitations in healthcare, the importance of the patient-pharmacist relationship and the potential beheld by health sciences, all of which continue to develop as I go through the PharmD program. Being awarded the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Master’s award allowed me to pursue and publish my cardiac physiology research in a peer-reviewed journal and present in front of peers at conferences, whereas my clinical undergraduate internships exposed me to my first patient encounters. Having worked as a physician’s assistant, a pharmaceutical laboratory technician and now as a student intern in Medical Affairs at Pfizer, I recognize patient vulnerabilities and the continued impact of pharmaceuticals and research, motivating me to continue on this trajectory towards becoming a first-line healthcare professional.

Although studying in my second language can be challenging, I continue to thrive and grow in a stimulating field that evolves with new rights and responsibilities. Once I complete my degree, I plan to maintain an active role in community pharmacy all the while moving forward as a Medical Advisor at Pfizer, whereby I can continue to have impact on patient lives as a pharmacist.

I believe these experiences will contribute immensely to my unique approach as a future well rounded pharmacist.
