Cynthia Akram - Dissertation du lauréat, 2015

Cynthia Akram

I am honoured to be a part of McMaster University’s Nursing Program in my final year. Throughout my lifetime I have worked closely with children and neonates, which has given me the drive to pursue a career as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner. I will make this goal a reality by working for two years as a NICU nurse then applying to Graduate Programs across Ontario.

At a young age I began to immerse myself in the health care field where I volunteered for the Guelph General Hospital for a years time. I was also able to volunteer with a YMCA daycare and the Multiple Births Association to ensure that I wanted to work with a younger population. This also led me to provide childcare for twin boys for over three years now. Volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters in the Go Girls Program for two years also reassured me that working with the pediatric field was for me.

I continued my passion of working in the health care field by obtaining a position with the University Health Network Hospitals; I found that this early hospital exposure would help me become the best nurse I could be. To continue, I received a bursary to attend the Pediatric Oncology Group of Ontario Conference and registered for an inter-professional pediatric workshop at McMaster.

I am an active member of McMaster’s community by volunteering with Nursing Admissions for the accelerated program and becoming a Nursing Welcome Week Representative for the past three years.
